Hello Wussey!
So last night I went to see The Rocky Horror Show at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre.
It was my first time seeing the show having known a little about it but not much....
What I Already Knew:
Audience participation is key to the show - a bit like panto - and the audience dress up as the characters in the show or simply their own style that reflects the show.
The Show:
The show begins with the Usherette singing Science Fiction - solid vocals from Kara Lane - who then changes into the role of Magenta later.
The set is simple and yet effective - with sliding ladders that the characters continuously use, and most of the scenery comprises of walls and doors that all slide on (push and pull thanks to the Phantoms)
No covers were on for this performance meaning that Henry Davis had a nice easy show - pushing a castle along and then making an appearance in act 2 for an orgy! (This isn't your typical family show!)
The Rocky Horror Show is crude and very sexual and generally not for the young ones at all - the site states that the show has a PG rating - leaving it entirely up to parents as to whether they bring children along. I would recommend that you DEFINITELY DO NOT TAKE CHILDREN to see the show.....the most common word I heard from the audience participation was "cock".
The cast were all strong and great at their roles - and were magnificently lead by David Badella's 'Frank N Furter' (not appearing in Aberdeen or Edinburgh) whom I had previously seen in the hilarious Jerry Springer The Opera.
Badella's comedic timing was brilliant and he gave the audience exactly what they wanted - he looked great in heels and his vocals were magnificanet.
Ceris Hine proved a brilliant quirky character as she took on the role of Columbia - her tap dancing was spot-on, her singing too, and she most definitely wins the awards for sparkliest costumes!
Hine was earlier awarded 'The Voice Of Tomorrow' by London's theatre goers when she competed in a 3-day singing marathon to win over the public - a clear winner with her solo rendition of 'The Girl In 14G'.
Dominic Tribuzio was the perfect Rocky - his muscle definition is all over his body and his acrobatics, bleached hair, and tiny pants drove the audience wild. I wouldn't like to be covered in that body glitter every night though!
The Narrator was performed by TV Chef and personality Ainsley Harriott - bringing his Cous-Cous Cookbook with him!
Mark Evans is now in rehearsals for the UK Tour of Okahoma! The Musical and so the role of 'Brad' has been taken over by Richard Meek - who with Haley Flaherty's 'Janet' - provide a great un-suspecting couple who are in love - until they end up having sex with Frank N Furter by accident.......DON'T ASK!!!!!
So The Rocky Horror Show is not for the faint-hearted....it is incredibly rude with sexual acts simulated throughout including dare I say.......fingering, rimming, blow-jobs, anal, and lesbian kissing.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!
Having said that.....the show is all-in-all a full-out comedy show and has been entertaining audiences for years!
Be prepared to dance the 'Time-Warp' and get into the aisles for the finale to give yourself the most room to really extend your arms!!! ha ha
